Barriers

  • static HTML & org capacity

CMS

  • WP has biggest market, Drupal is 2nd

Reviewing the UI

Drupal is a software and requires hosting for Apache and MySQL

DRUPAL

  • MySQL
  • broader Platform than WP
  • includes API > functions out of the box

Drupal 8 releases tomorrow

  • 2 versions are supported (D6&7 currently)

Drupal has a big focus on contributed modules

Out of the box

  • Drupal Core has a fair amount of functions (less than WP)
  • Drupal must be built in order to be useful

Drupal.org > Project > DL & Extend (>Themes)

Custom themes are often made with base theme

ROLES

  • can be assigned to org members
  • permissions can be assigned to different roles

FIELDS

  • each content type has a field
  • fields are configured after content type is made
  • fields also include widgets, expanding the field function

MODULES

  • WYSIWIG
  • there are standards that help build the site
  • more modules await in Drupal
  • a lot can be done with modules

EXAMPLE : KRC (Korean Resource Center)

  • Drupal code and modules

  • RULE : don't hack core

  • ADAPTIVE Theme is a good base theme, this can be built on

  • Something about BackDrop

- is a fork of Drupal

- takes from D7 and pulls back D8

- this allows smaller sites to stay up longer

- simplifies some drupal functions

  • DRUPAL 8 will improve its extensive multilingual functions
